Back-illuminated sensor with higher sensitivity and readout speed
The camera's 35mm full-frame CMOS image sensor boasts a back-illuminated structure, resulting in enhanced light collection efficiency. It further expands circuitry scale and, with the help of a copper wiring layer for faster data transfer, outputs data at a high speed while reducing noise to reveal fine details in every picture.

Reducing noise for high-resolution images
Achieve up to a 1.5-stop improvement in image quality. The standard ISO range has been extended to ISO 100-51200 (expandable to ISO 50-204800 for stills). Thanks to Detail Reproduction and Area-specific Noise Reduction technologies, image details are preserved and noise is reduced. Uncompromising image resolution
Full-pixel readout without binning for high-resolution 4K movies makes it possible to condense approximately 2.4 times the data required for 4K movies, reducing moiré and jaggies. Select between full-frame or Super 35mm mode as needed. Additionally, 4K recording utilises the XAVC S format at bitrates as high as 100 Mbps.

Enhanced autofocus for comprehensive performance
The a7iii's improved Fast Hybrid AF combines focal-plane phase-detection AF and contrast-detection AF for locking onto and smoothly tracking moving subjects. An expanded AF area similar to that for still images is available for movies too.
