Olympus UK are teaming up with LCE Chester to give you unique insight into how train travel used to be at this exclusive event, with Olympus Expert Lewis Speight.
Named the only standard gauge heritage railway in North Wales, Llangollen Railway is located beside the historic Dee Bridge (built in 1345) in the centre of Llangollen town. As if the station itself wasn’t photographic inspiration enough, attendees will take a relaxing 10-mile steam hauled train journey, travelling through the stunning Dee Valley to the lovely town of Corwen: the crossroads of North Wales.
The line follows the picturesque River Dee, classed as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), for its entire length. The small section of line, which in its day went from Ruabon to Barmouth taking people to the seaside on holiday and transporting various goods including slate and chemicals, offers a sample of the sights and sounds of yesteryear. The line passes through some of the finest natural beauty North Wales has to offer.
This one-of-a-kind photographic tour will include access to one of the hourly train services from Llangollen (which alternates between Steam and diesel locomotive haulage), a guided tour of the workshops (where four brand new full size standard gauge steam locomotives are being built) and the opportunity to photograph the breathtaking beauty of the Dee Valley.
As usual on such events, the Olympus team will be on-hand at every step of the way, loaning out the latest kit for you to try, offering expert advice and answering any technical questions you may have.
