About Langford Lakes.
Langford Lakes nature reserve is a haven for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts alike. This captivating reserve, owned by the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, boasts a mosaic of meadows and lakes, with the River Wylye winding along its edge.
Immerse yourself in nature from one of three bird hides, where you can see Canada geese, tufted ducks, great-crested grebes, and pochards. With patience, you may witness the dazzling turquoise streak of the kingfisher as it darts along the water. In the spring the grebes' graceful courtship dances are fun to watch as they rise from the water and shake their heads in display. Throughout the winter months, shovelers and wigeons join the resident ducks and geese, creating a vibrant tapestry of waterfowl. If luck is on your side, you may even catch a glimpse of the elusive bittern, one of the UK's rarest birds, as it silently stalks through the reeds on a crisp winter day.
The Trust's dedication to conservation has transformed the river edgeging the site into a thriving sanctuary for salmon, brown trout, and grayling. Recent sightings of otters and water voles add to the reserve's charm.
Savour the flavours of locally sourced food and drink at the reserve's Kingfisher Café. With stunning views over the main lake, both indoor and outdoor seating offer the perfect setting to unwind and reconnect with nature. The café also hosts a variety of events, from invigorating yoga classes to crafts and art exhibitions.
To ensure that the wildlife is not disturbed, please note that dogs apart from guide dogs are not allowed on site. There is no fishing at Langford Lakes however there are local angling societies nearby.
The show is completely free to attend and will run from 10.00am until 4.00pm on Saturday 28th September 2024.
We look forward to seeing you there.
