Driven by SIGMA''s High-response Linear Actuator (HLA), autofocus is fast, precise and reliable, even in the most demanding scenarios. At 600mm, an advanced OS2 stabilization system delivers up to 5.5 stops of shake correction, ensuring sharp results when it matters most. With a rugged magnesium alloy build, carbon-fibre hood, thermal insulation paint and a newly introduced function ring, the 300-600mm F4 DG OS | Sports is a true professional tool built to perform at the highest level.
Prime-level optical performance in a zoom
Extending the capabilities of a 600mm F4 prime, this lens allows photographers to zoom out to 300mm with no compromise in quality. Its internal zoom mechanism maintains a stable centre of gravity, enhancing balance and making handling smoother throughout the zoom range.
Inside, the optical design features 28 elements in 21 groups, including 6 FLD and 1 SLD glass elements, plus anomalous dispersion and high refractive index glass. The result is exceptional control of chromatic aberration and distortion across the entire focal range, delivering the clarity and resolution expected from the very best primes.
Precision autofocus with HLA
The lightweight focusing group, powered by SIGMA''s HLA motor, delivers autofocus that is both high-speed and pinpoint accurate. Even with the large F4 aperture, focusing remains quick and dependable, whether tracking fast-moving athletes, birds in flight or unpredictable wildlife.
Advanced optical stabilization
At 600mm, the 300-600mm F4 DG OS | Sports achieves up to 5.5 stops of stabilization, driven by SIGMA''s refined OS2 algorithm. Two stabilization modes give photographers control:
Mode 1: general-purpose stabilization for stills and video, correcting shake across all directions.
Mode 2: optimized for panning, perfect for motorsport, aviation and fast-moving subjects.
Professional durability and handling
The lens barrel is crafted from magnesium alloy, combining strength with mobility, while the carbon-fibre hood reduces weight at the front. A revised balance point closer to the camera improves comfort, particularly during handheld or long-session shooting.
The exterior features thermal insulation paint, preventing heat buildup under strong sunlight—ideal for extended outdoor work.
New function ring
A newly developed function ring adds extended control:
Focus Preset Mode: instantly return to a pre-set focus point.
Power Focus Mode: achieve smooth, constant-speed focusing for video or discreet manual pulls, with adjustable speeds.
Tripod and filter support
The redesigned tripod collar rotates smoothly on bearings and includes a click/de-click mechanism at 90° intervals for precision. Its foot is Arca-Swiss compatible, with interchangeable options available.
The lens also includes a drop-in filter holder for ø40.5mm filters, with optional new drop-in CPL and variable ND filters (up to 7 stops of adjustment).
Weather-sealed and field-ready
As part of the Sports line, the lens is built for extreme conditions. All switches, rings and joints are dust- and splash-resistant, while the front element is treated with a water- and oil-repellent coating for easy cleaning.
With a full array of customizable switches—including AFL buttons in four positions, focus limiter, OS selector and custom modes—the 300-600mm F4 DG OS | Sports adapts to any shooting scenario. The L-Mount version is also compatible with SIGMA Tele Converters, extending reach up to 1200mm with AF support.
