Hail the new Z f, Nikon's latest FX format mirrorless camera that seamlessly blends Nikon's heritage design with advanced technology and exceptional performance. Inspired by the iconic FM2, this full frame mirrorless camera not only looks stunning but also delivers an unmatched experience for creators and photographers.
A classic design inspired by the iconic FM2-
Drawing from its rich heritage, the Nikon Z f boasts a classic design reminiscent of the iconic FM2. The retro-inspired look is accompanied by the adoption of the dials, a shutter-release button, and Nikon's logo from the 1970s. All dials are crafted from premium brass, ensuring a premium and tactile feel.
New functionalities that expand the possibilities for image expression-
The Nikon Z f introduces new functions that expand the possibilities of what's possible. Alongside the conventional monochrome Picture Control, it features two new Picture Controls: flat monochrome and deep tone monochrome. Additionally, a dedicated black-and-white position has been added to the photo and video selector, allowing for seamless switching between controls. The mirrorless camera also comes equipped with inspiring features like Creative Picture Controls and pixel-shift shooting—the first of its kind in the Z series.
Improved video performance for diverse needs-
For videographers, the Nikon Z f comes with some exciting video features, including in-camera 10-bit H.265 recording and the ability to record up to 125 minutes of 4K UHD footage. Inheriting functionalities from the Z9, this full-frame mirrorless camera allows users to adjust ISO sensitivity in steps of 1/6 and displays a red frame during video recording.
The Nikon Z F full-frame mirrorless camera features shutter-priority auto mode for video recording, enabling users to manually select the shutter speed while the camera adjusts the aperture. The AF-area mode options have also been improved, with 3D-tracking available for photo mode and Subject-tracking AF for video mode. The camera's advanced pixel technology optimises exposure for both image creation and AF, making it easier to accurately focus on the intended subject even in challenging lighting situations, like poorly lit or backlit scenes. The auto-area AF mode now delivers an increased range of coverage and focus points, resulting in improved focus acquisition performance, particularly with distant or moving subjects. Moreover, the custom wide-area AF mode options have been expanded to enhance effectiveness for scenes with multiple subjects.
Powering the Nikon Z f is the EXPEED 7 image-processing engine, which effectively reduces noise in flat portions of subjects and enhances overall image quality. This full-frame mirrorless camera sets a new benchmark for Z-series mirrorless cameras by introducing a vari-angle monitor, providing efficient support for vertical shooting. Additionally, the Zf features a Pre-Release Capture function that can record images buffered up to one second before the shutter-release button is fully pressed. It also comes with skin softening and portrait impression balance functions, so users can achieve their desired portrait results. The Rich-Tone Portrait Picture Control accurately captures the intricate details of a subject's complexion.
To further elevate the photography experience for creators, the Nikon Z f utilises deep learning technology to identify scenes when capturing still images in auto-shooting mode, resulting in optimal exposure control tailored to the scene. Additionally, the design includes superior dust- and drip-resistance for worry-free shooting even in challenging environments. It also comes equipped with dual memory card slots—one for SD cards and another for Micro SD cards. The camera's image sensor is well protected against dust by dual coating. Moreover, the merging of NEF (RAW) images shot with pixel-shift shooting is supported through the use of NX Studio Ver.1.5.0. The Picture Control Utility 2 functions have been consolidated into a single app for easier adjustment, application, and management of Picture Control settings.
